Amy Winehouse Diagnosed With Irregular Heartbeat
Troubled songstress Amy Winehouse remains in the hospital as doctors try to figure out what led to the recent incident, during which she briefly fainted at her London home. At the time, Amy Winehouse’s rep told People magazine, “She's fine. It was a brief thing and they took her in as a precaution. Her Dad drove her to a private hospital, but they're unsure what caused it so aren't taking any chances."
Looks like her rep wasn’t kidding. It has been reported that the singer is having a whole myriad of tests performed on her before being released.
Now, The Sun is reporting that it is an irregular heartbeat that led to Amy Winehouse’s fainting spell. A doctor spoke to The Sun about the potential reasons why Amy Winehouse may have be suffering from an irregular heartbeat- and, shocker, it has to do with drug use.
Last year, Amy Winehouse was briefly hospitalized after overdosing on crack. The doctor told The Sun, "Crack narrows blood vessels and raises pressure. It is toxic to the heart muscle, causing an irregular beat. A heart attack is one of the most common ways for the drug to kill."
Amy Winehouse is currently scheduled to perform later this month, both at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebration as well as at England’s Glastonbury music festival.
While Winehouse has yet to cancel either date, her rep Chris Goodman said that ultimately, the decision as to whether or not Amy Winehouse keeps her two commitments "will be made entirely on the advice of her doctors and in her best interests."
Seems like whether or not Amy Winehouse should be singing her heart out later this month or kicking drugs in order to save her heart is sort of a no-brainer. But then again, what do we know…
