It’s a girl for Thomas Beatie, the so-called “pregnant man.”
Thomas Beatie, a transgender man, gave birth to a healthy girl on Friday, ABC News reports.
The 34-year-old, who was born a woman, had his breasts surgically removed and legally changed his gender from female to male.
Beatie has taken hormones and lived as a man for years but retained his female sex organs in order to have children.
“I actually opted not to do anything to my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day. I see pregnancy as a process and it doesn’t define who I am,” Beatie told Oprah Winfrey in April, when he came out to the world as the first “pregnant man.”
Beatie was impregnated with sperm from a donor.
His wife, Nancy, inseminated him at home with a syringe-like device they bought from a veterinarian that’s typically used to feed birds.
Beatie has an intact vagina, but he has not yet revealed how he delivered the baby.
