Zac Efron to star in Footloose remake

High School Musical star will take on the role Kevin Bacon made famous

Zac Efron is to pick up a huge £5million pay cheque to star in a Disney reworking of cult dance flick Footloose.

The studio is hoping to capitalise on the success of High School Musical and its star.

The updated version will feature new tunes as well as those from the original soundtrack, including Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out For A Hero, reports The Sun.

Zac, 21, will take the lead role of Ren McCormack, made famous by Kevin Bacon in the 1984 movie.

The 50-year-old has already given the hunk his blessing.

‘I think it’s a great idea,’ he says. ‘He’s a great choice. He’s very talented.’

Footloose is scheduled for release in 2010.
