Police: Former Survivor Winner Shot Puppy

Brian Heidik

Brian Heidik, the $1-million winner of 2002's fifth season of Survivor, was arrested Wednesday in Douglasville, Ga., after allegedly shooting a puppy with an arrow.

Heidik, 38, was charged in Georgia's Douglas County Magistrate Court with battery and cruelty to animals and then released on bond, the Associated Press reports.

Atlanta news station WSB-TV reported on its Web site that, during the pre-trial bond hearing, Heidik told a judge he'd thought the dog was a coyote that has been harassing his pets.

Douglas County Chief Deputy Stan Copeland, however, said it was a puppy. "At about 3 a.m., his wife called to report that he was outside and that he had shot a puppy that was on his property with an arrow and planned to shoot another one," Copeland told the AP.

When sheriff's deputies arrived, Heidik fled in his car but was quickly apprehended. Heidik's wife, Charmaine, and 5-year-old son were present at the home at the time of the incident, Copeland said.

He added that that there was evidence in the home to support a charge of battery for family violence, but would not elaborate on the nature of the evidence.

The wounded puppy and the second puppy were turned over to animal control officials to try to find their owner.

Heidik did not respond to calls from the AP requesting comment. Besides Survivor: Thailand, Heidik – a former North Carolina State football player and used-car salesman – was an actor who appeared on Baywatch Nights, Doogie Howser, M.D. and Days of Our Lives.

While Heidik was on Survivor, the Smoking Gun Web site reported that his résumé also included softcore adult films such as Sinful Obsession and Passion Cove 2.

The revelation forced the network to issue the statement: "CBS was aware of his past film credits, but all of our survivors ultimately have the option to decide what elements of their background they do and don't want written in their bios. Brian Heidik is certainly not the first actor to omit certain credits from his biography."
