THIS is the battered face of singer RIHANNA after she was allegedly bashed by boyfriend CHRIS BROWN.

The shocking photo was released by pals of the pop star as revenge after rapper Brown’s “arrogant” apology.

It shows her bloody, swollen lips, welts on her forehead and bruises on her eyes, nose and cheeks.

The Umbrella singer, who turned 21 yesterday , was also bitten on the arm during the alleged pre-Grammy bust-up on February 8.

The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an internal probe over how the picture was leaked to US website TMZ, saying it “has the appearance” of a photograph taken during a domestic violence investigation.

But Rihanna’s aides said they wanted the world to see her injuries after Brown’s weak apology.

One said: “The picture is shocking enough to put pressure on Chris to take more responsibility. They also know reaction to the picture could kill his career.

“Rihanna was appalled by his apology and his behaviour since the incident.”

Brown, 19, took a week to make his public statement, which didn’t even mention Rihanna by name.

He said: “Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired.

“I am seeking the counselling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones, and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person.”

And Rihanna has released a statement through her representative thanking fans for their support.

The statement reads: “At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown.

“She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong, is doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time.”

Brown is free on £35,000 bail after being arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats and is due in a Los Angeles court on March 5.

The LA District Attorney’s Office is continuing to investigate whether to charge Brown with domestic assault.

He allegedly attacked the beauty in a bust-up after Brown received a text message from another woman as they left a Hollywood do before the Grammy awards.

A spokeswoman for TMZ refused to reveal the source of the photo, but added: “It has been obtained legally.”

Looking skinnier than ever, Gwyneth Paltrow has been told by husband Chris Martin not to lose any more weight because he prefers his women with curves.

Gwyneth, 36, has shrunk from a size 10 to a size 6 in under a year. Now Coldplay star Chris has told her to ease up before she drops another dress size.

‘Gwyneth works out six days a week with Tracy Anderson – the same trainer Madonna uses,’ a source tells Now. ‘Like Madonna, she’s been progressively increasing her exercise sessions and working her butt off.’

The star’s said to have upped her daily sessions from an hour and a half to an exhausting three hours.

‘At first, Chris told her she looked good. In the beginning, she was just becoming more toned,’ says our source. ‘But he now thinks she risks losing all her curves. She’s even tried to get him to work out with her, which he flat out refuses to do.'

Gwyneth’s set to open a set of gyms with Tracy and hopes to release her own fitness DVD.

The legal meeting to decide the arrangements for their two sons - Rocco, eight, and David, three - has been moved to the New York Supreme Court.

Madonna - who also has a daughter, Lourdes, 12, from a previous relationship - is planning to move to New York with her children and needs US courts to ratify a custody deal negotiated in London.

"The New York hearing will confirm the English proceedings. There will be revelations, but the divorce remains amicable and intelligently handled."

She will be forced to provide the court with details about her divorce proceedings, including financial arrangements and demands for her sons' welfare.

Solange even updated her page moments after collapsing in the baggage reclaim area of the airport.

She explained: "Woaah...... Mickey Rourke caused a stir at London Heathrow when he checked in a five-and-a-half stone suitcase packed with shoes.

The 56-year-old actor – who was flying first class from London to New York - was forced to repack his bags as the crammed case of footwear was 4kg over the maximum weight limit.

An airline source told Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper: "It was really weird and extraordinary to watch. Five-and-a-half stone – 36kg – of shoes is one heck of a lot of shoes, especially for a man.

"It's the sort of thing you would expect from Victoria Beckham, but not of a tough guy like Mickey Rourke."

Mickey – who was returning to the US after an eight-day stay in London – has evidently adapted to the UK climate.

The source said: "It was freezing cold but he had no socks on and a pair of blue slip-ons with very low heels. And it turned out that he had about 40 pairs of shoes very similar to the ones he was wearing in the case."

During his stay in the UK, the Hollywood star picked up the Best Actor award at last week's BAFTAs for his comeback role in 'The Wrestler'.

BRAD PITT’s security is so good he can’t even get into his own house.

The Oscar-nominated actor was left red-faced when he returned to his home on his customised Chopper motorbike – only to discover he couldn’t get through the security gates of his private estate.

Brad, currently at cinemas in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, had been at a business meeting at swanky Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood.

He made several frantic phone calls and eventually a neighbor turned up to let him in.

Maybe security didn’t recognize him under that helmet...

Courtney Love has had another pop at arch rival Madonna

COURTNEY LOVE has had another pop at arch rival MADONNA.

The mouthy Hole frontwoman is moving to London - but hopes the Queen Of Pop will never return to the British capital after her own move to New York.

Writing on her online blog, Courtney said: "Madonna had better stay the hell away from London when I move here to live!"

"There's no room for us both. Buckinghamshire is where I want to go. I'm fed up with L.A. It's full of crazy people.

"People criticise Britain but it is still a cleaner, safer place to live than Hollywood."

The feisty pair fell out after Courtney threw a compact mirror at the Material Girl at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards.

Controversial Courtney also launched a vicious tirade on Madonna’s singing skills via MySpace last year.

She said: “Madonna is a great businesswoman, but come on, she is weak as an artist and we all know it.”

“It’s a joke she’s singing from such a calculating, thought-out place all the time, it’s never from her gut or heart or intuition.”
